Door Pocket Size and Armrest Storage Access
The Issue
Door pockets across the cars tested were adequate in most cases, with one recurring observation: some could not accommodate a standard 750ml or 1-litre water bottle in a way that allowed it to be inserted and removed with one hand without resistance or distortion of the pocket material. A separate observation concerned the central armrest storage box on several cars. The armrest lid was sized to provide a large and comfortable resting surface, which is a reasonable priority, but this meant that opening the storage beneath it and reaching inside required an awkward arm movement, particularly for the driver whose approach angle was constrained by the steering wheel and door.
Why It Matters
Door pockets and storage bins are evaluated by buyers on test drives and used on every journey thereafter. A door pocket that cannot hold a standard water bottle fails at one of its most common everyday purposes. The armrest storage issue is subtler but equally real: a storage area that is physically present but practically awkward to access is not delivering the benefit its size implies. Both problems result from individual design decisions made in isolation, without testing the complete interaction required to actually use the feature.
